Episode 8

At long last, Episode 8 is now online for your enjoyment.  Although we recorded this shortly after seeing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, my life has been a bit hectic. I said goodbye to a very dear friend and with work and a baby keeping me busy I hadn’t had time to edit the show until today.

We talk about the new Indiana Jones, Speed Racer, War Inc. and some other films on DVD now. Don’t wait, download it today.

We also need iTunes reviews. Please, if you listen to the show write us a review on iTunes. We’d love to get into the top podcasts or be featured and the only way for that to happen is to have you guys write about us.

Thanks for listening and enjoy the show.

Indy 4: Don’t Believe The Haters

Eric and I are trying to get our schedules to cross so we can do another podcast but in the meantime, I wanted to tell you to get out there and see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Despite the reviews on the internet, this is a good movie. I heard one detractor say it was a good way to get out of the heat for 2 hours but it wasn’t a good Indiana Jones movie. His main complaint was that there was too much CGI. MOST of the stunts were practical and without giving away what is CGI…it’s done well and will put you on the edge of your seat.

I think what I hate about critics is they are always jaded especially when it comes to sequels. I think there’s too much focus on how sequels compare to the first movies. First of all, sequels are rarely as good or better than the first film. Rush Hour 3, Shrek 3, Major League 3: Back To The Minors. All those films reek of bad writing and money being the only motivation.

That being said, I totally disagree this isn’t a good Indy movie. This is a great Indy movie. It has all the elements the first film had without being formulaic. There are references to the first film in a lot of places and I love the ideas about Mayan culture (which many people believe were influenced by outside sources) because of how advanced they were for their time. I really don’t have anything bad to say about the movie. All the acting is good and the set designs are incredible. Definitely a must see.

I’ve been watching a lot of stuff on DVD and a few advanced screeners i got. So next time I’ll be talking about Speed Racer, Indy 4, What Happens In Vegas, War Inc., My Mom’s New Boyfriend, and probably a few others.

Rock Band Rocks!

I know, this is old news but I just got this game for the Playstation 2. It’s still hard to find the special edition that comes with not only a guitar, microphone, drum kit and the game itself but also a $167 price tag. Even though its a bit pricey, the bonus is the gear works on the PS3 as well so if I upgrade, I just have to buy the new version of the game.

The game itself is amazing. The drums have a good response and solid feel to them and I really like the guitar much better than the guitar hero guitars. The guitar is modeled after the iconic Fender Stratocaster made famous by so many rockers. I’ve heard you can even learn to play real drums because of this game since the motions are so similar. I haven’t put that to the test yet but I can play some solid drums on the easy setting so far.

I remember when I first got Karaoke Revolution and then Guitar Hero I said to my wife how awesome it would be if you could do both of those games in one…that was about 3 years ago. I totally predicted this because I’m awesome!

Anyway, this is a must have for any party because its insanely fun. The gear doesn’t take up too much space and easily breaks down into core components for easy storage. You can even buy a bag now for both the guitar and the drum kit to easily carry your gear to your next “gig”.

I Am Iron Man!

Iron Man Ticket StubIt’s official. Iron Man is awesome. How do I know?

You see that ticket stub? I went the the first official show at 8pm tonight cuz I’m awesome! yeah! That’s right, I saw the first show.

Ok, but seriously, it’s really good. I’m so glad I bought a bunch of Marvel (NYSE: MVL) stock yesterday because this movie is a savior for the company and is launching a new franchise. Where Spider Man failed, Iron Man succeeds and I have to say it is because of Jon Favreau at the helm. He and Robert Downey Jr. hold this film together so tight. Jeff Bridges is great as the antagonist and I didn’t feel at all underwhelmed by the lack of a real villain because they do such a good job of making the film about Tony and his struggles. Instead of focusing on a super villain, they focus on the origin story here and it totally works.

It’s funny, Gwenneth Paltrow is great as the assistant/almost love interest and the writing is smart enough not to take itself too seriously.

Great movie. Get out there and see it in the theaters!

Games and Podcasts and Forums, Oh My!

If you are reading this, then you obviously know about the podcast. What you might not know about is the forums. We have a forum set up (link at the top of the site) for you to discuss what’s on your mind about games, movies and the like. There’s a few games I am really looking forward to (as a PC gamer) and I’ve already mentioned what I think is going to be game of the year, Spore. What I haven’t talked about yet is Age of Conan – Hyborian Adventures.

Age of Conan is set in the Hyborian world created by Robert E. Howard. The game is an MMORPG and is supposed to be everything you would expect from the Conan name.  Everything from creating your own version of Conan to living the life of a humble carpenter can be done in the game. I’m gonna say this game has all the B’s gamers love. Blood, Battles and Boobies. What more do you need?

Check out some of the screenshots, art and movies at http://www.ageofconan.com/ and then let us know what you think in the forums. I’m going to be discussing this game in a future podcast.
